London has five ICBs: North Central, North East, North West, South East and South West London. Your right to choose a provider is the same in all of them, but each ICB sets its own limits on how many Right to Choose assessments it funds each year.
How London ICBs handle limits
NHS North Central London ICB, for example, says your Right to Choose for ADHD assessments is unchanged. Each provider has an annual plan for the number of NHS-funded assessments. Reaching that number doesn't stop referrals; you may join the provider's waiting list until capacity opens later in the year.
Other London ICBs have their own arrangements, and some providers report restrictions in parts of London. Check your ICB on nhs.uk.
What you can do
- Find your ICB from your GP practice's location, not where you work.
- Ask two or three providers about their current wait for patients from your ICB.
- Ask your GP to refer you to the provider with the best realistic wait, even if it has a list. A referral holds your place.
- Ask your ICB in writing if you're told referrals are paused.
