If your GP practice is in Birmingham or Solihull, you still have the right to choose your provider. But in 2026, NHS Birmingham and Solihull ICB asked at least one provider to pause booking new Right to Choose ADHD and autism assessments, so expect longer waits.
What's happening in 2026
- Clinical Partners reports that the ICB asked it to temporarily pause new Right to Choose autism and ADHD assessment bookings (last updated September 2026). No end date was given.
- Referrals can still be made. They're held on the provider's waiting list until bookings restart.
- The ICB requires an extra review of referrals, which usually means your GP must provide more information. That adds time.
What you can do
- Ask several providers whether they can book assessments for Birmingham and Solihull patients now. Limits usually apply per provider.
- Give your GP a strong summary of your difficulties, since referrals face an extra review. Use the free evidence organiser.
- Ask the ICB in writing for its current position and which providers can accept referrals.
- Get support while you wait. The ICB has support-while-waiting information for children and young people.
Local positions change often. Check with the provider before your GP appointment.
